Institute for Vegetable Crops participates is a partner within the European Evaluation Network (European Evaluation Network - EVA) for pepper. In the period from 2019 to 2022, EVA was financed by the Ministry of Food and Agriculture of the Federal Republic of Germany. This network promotes cooperation between private and state institutions (Research and Scientific Institutes, private breeding houses, state gene banks), with the aim of increasing the use of plant genetic resources for food and agriculture. Activities within the EVA network are carried out exclusively in the pre-breeding phase. Pepper genotypes collected from many gene banks were propagated and forwarded to different geographical locations across Europe. Over a period of two years, paprika genotypes will be evaluated for selected agronomic and morphological traits. In addition, testing for significant pepper diseases will be conducted, under controlled conditions, as well as genotyping of each pepper sample.
